Wilcon hosted Chino Roces Statue Unveiling Ceremony

Wilcon Depot, the country’s leading home improvement and construction supplies retailer, hosted its first-ever statue unveiling ceremony of the late journalist Chino Roces at Wilcon Depot I.T. Hub last February 3, 2019.

Attended by honorable personalities, government officials, Wilcon Executives, and Chino Roces’ relatives, the event was considered as Wilcon’s way of contributing to the continuous cultural sustainability and social development in the entire city, together with the assistance of Urban Development Department (UDD) and its local government.

“Wilcon is proud to host this statue at our flagship store, Wilcon Depot I.T. Hub located in the aptly named Chino Roces Avenue. We are grateful to the city government for this opportunity to contribute in making Makati City a more progressive and livable city through the Urban Development Department (UDD), such projects of the UDD of Makati City are truly commendable,” Anstay Realty and Dev’t Corp President and Wilcon Depot EVP-Chief Financial Officer Mark Andrew Belo said.

The statue unveiling ceremony was hosted by Mr. Xiao Chua and presided by Honorable Mayor Abigail Binay together with the Wilcon Founder and Chairman Emeritus Mr. William Belo, Anstay Realty and Development Corp. President Mr. Mark Andrew Belo and the 2 sons of the late Chino Roces, Mr. Ed Roces, and Mr. Joaquin Roces. Also present were other Roces relatives: Alex Prieto, his daughter Tessa Prieto Valdes, and his wife Marixi Prieto, retired chair of the Board of Directors of the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

“Indeed, Chino Roces was a remarkable man. And this statue is a tribute to the brave yet humble Chino Roces, to remind the succeeding generations of his legacy, contributions, and preserve the values he defended,” he added.

“On behalf of the city government and the people of Makati, I would like to thank Wilcon Depot for this valuable contribution to Makati’s rich history and cultural heritage.
