Wilcon Depot SEVP and Chief Operating Officer Rosemarie Ong received the University of the Philippines (UP) Gawad Oblation award on January 17, 2023, at Ang Bahay ng Alumni, UP Diliman.
The University President gives the award to UP’s alumni and supporters who have rendered “extraordinary service with or in the name of UP.” The award is named after UP’s enduring symbol, The Oblation, a National Artist Guillermo E. Tolentino’s sculpture inspired by the second stanza of Jose Rizal’s Mi Ultimo Adios. The Oblation signifies the offering of oneself in service.
Among the recipients of the 2nd UP Gawad Oblation is Rosemarie Ong, a mother, professional, and leader. Her extensive expertise, exemplary leadership performance, and four decades of experience in the home construction retail industry steered the aggressive strategies that drive Wilcon Depot’s consistent business growth. She is the woman behind the giant retailer’s notable success and achievements in the industry.
She started working at Wilcon Depot in 1984 as a purchasing manager and worked her way up until she was designated as the SEVP-Chief Operating Officer at present.
With her unparalleled work ethic leadership service, aside from her role in Wilcon Depot, Ong serves as the president of the Philippine Retailers Association (PRA) and internal auditor of the Women’s Business Council of the Philippines (WomenBiz)–the country’s foremost organization of women leaders & entrepreneurs. She is also a Founding Director of the PropTech Consortium of the Philippines.
Truly, she embodies the essence of an excellent individual and professional, who puts her heart into everything she does and creates an impact on people surrounding her.
A total of thirty-eight awardees from private and government sectors, including San Miguel Corporation President, CEO, and COO Ramon S. Ang; Robinson’s Retail Holdings President And Chief Executive Officer Robina Y. Gokongwei-Pe and Tarlac Governor Susan Yap.
